The Comox Valley RCMP have arrested a man in connection with a series of violent incidents that have raised concerns in the community. On August 19, officers responded to reports of a man making threats with a firearm in the 100-block of Centennial Drive in Courtenay around 6:15 p.m. Upon arrival, police located a red pickup truck linked to the incident and apprehended two individuals: 34-year-old James Snowdon, the driver, and a woman who was later released without charges.
Snowdon now faces nine charges, including assault with a weapon, impaired driving, and evading police. He is currently in custody awaiting his next court appearance. The RCMP noted that the truck was being driven dangerously throughout the area, and they expressed relief that no serious injuries or fatalities occurred as a result of the reckless behavior. "It is evident this truck was being driven dangerously throughout the community for some time," said Const. Monika Terragni of the Comox Valley RCMP.
In addition to the threats made with the firearm, police believe the same vehicle was involved in a hit-and-run incident on the 1400-block of Krueger Road earlier that day, as well as two other hit-and-run collisions reported in July. The RCMP are urging anyone with information, including dashcam or surveillance footage, to come forward and assist in their investigation. Those with tips can contact the Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321.
As the investigation continues, the community remains on alert, and local authorities are committed to ensuring public safety in the wake of these alarming events.
